Pierce School Library
The heart of our schoolThe Pierce School library serves almost 900 students in grades K-8. Our library is an open space in the middle of our third through fifth grade classrooms. We currently have one full-time certified librarian and one part-time library assistant.

2022 Pierce Mock Newbery

2022 Brookline Mock Caldecott Award
Posted by Amanda Kretschmar on 12/1/2021The Caldecott Medal is awarded annuallly to the most distinguished children's picture book. The Brookline elementary school libraries invite students and families to participate in our own "Mock Caldecott" contest. Throughout December and January, students will be listening to our ten nominated titles and then voting for their favorite. Check out ou Brookline Mock Caldecott website to find out more!

2021 Mock Newbery Program

2020 Mock Caldecott Award Program
Posted by Amanda Kretschmar on 12/2/2019Students in grades K-3 are invited to participate in the Pierce 2020 Mock Caldecott Award Program by reading as many of the "Contenders" as possible and voting for their favorite at the end of January. During library class we have been discussing how the Caldecott Committee discusses and analyzes the artwork in books. Do the illustrations help show plot, character, setting, and style of the story?

3rd Grade Library Scavenger Hunt
Posted by Amanda Kretschmar on 11/25/2019Over the past two months, third grade students, have been learning about how the Pierce School Library is organized. Although we still use the good old Dewey Decimal System, students now can access the card catalog via computer. As a culmination of our Dewey Unit, students got to put their skills to practice with a library scavenger hunt.

Steve Sheinkin Author Visit!!!

His presentation on the research and writing process of his books was incredibly inspiring and he encouraged all of us to read, write, and tell the untold stories of history.
