Greetings from the Superintendent of Schools
Dr. William H. Lupini
Superintendent of Schools
Welcome Message 2013-2014
Dear Brookline Parents and Guardians:
Welcome to the 2013-2014 school year, which begins for students on either September 9th (grades K-9) or September 10th (grades 10-12). I hope that each of you had a wonderful July and August with family and friends. After a summer filled with professional learning, reflection/renewal, planning and organizing, members of our staff are looking forward to the return of students to our schools.
We have many things to celebrate here in Brookline. Our curriculum initiatives and professional development, implemented with the guidance of curriculum and program coordinators, support our professional teachers in improving learning for all students. Our hiring efforts ensure that we select and support an outstanding and diverse group of professionals throughout our system. Our educators continue to be acknowledged at the state and national levels with awards, membership on important policy and programmatic committees, and opportunities for sharing their practice.
In addition, we will continue to face significant challenges in the coming year(s). Specifically, enrollment and space issues will mandate creative planning and significant school construction. We will need increases to staffing across the system in order to maintain reasonable class sizes and quality programming for all of our students. I also believe that we will need to make a considerable investment in technology across our schools to provide students and staff with the tools that they need for a quality teaching and learning experience.
Beyond these celebrations and challenges lies the true reason that we chose this profession - our students. All of us are here to ensure an outstanding educational experience for Brookline students - each and every one of them. I am extremely thankful for the opportunity to work with each of you here in Brookline, where we face the challenges presented to our system and public education in general while keeping our student's needs front and center.
I hope that the coming school year is a successful one for your student(s) and family.
William H. Lupini, Ed.D.

Our Strategic Plan provides a guide for future educational endeavors and a plan for documenting the ongoing success of our system and students. Specific goals and strategies for our system and schools are derived from our mission:

Conversation with the Superintendent
Each year I conduct a "Conversation with the Superintendent" session with the parent community at each of our schools and with other school-related organizations. Please check back in late August for scheduled sessions to be held during the 2014-2015 school year.
