School Committee votes to appoint Casey Ngo-Miller to be Interim Deputy Superintendent for Student Services

On Thursday, April 26 the School Committee supported Superintendent Bott’s recommendation and named Casey Ngo-Miller to be the Interim Deputy Superintendent  of Student Services through June 30, 2019.

Since August 2017, Ms. Ngo-Miller has been Co-Director of PK-8 Special Education for the Public Schools of Brookline. This year Ms. Ngo-Miller has supported Driscoll, Baker and Devotion Schools and the Brookline Early Education Program (BEEP). In her work with  teachers, administrators, and families at these schools, Ms. Ngo-Miller is known for her collaborative approach to problem solving, her calm and organized demeanor, and her careful follow through.

By state statute, the School Committee is responsible for hiring the Deputy Superintendent, therefore they have led the effort to name  an interim. Over the past week, the School Committee worked with the Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) to hold three meetings during which members of the public were invited to meet Ms. Ngo-Miller and ask her questions. As part of this process, the School Committee met with Ms. Ngo-Miller at their meeting on Monday, April 23. All members of the public who attended these meetings were asked to share their written feedback with the School Committee. Ms. Ngo-Miller also met with principals from all schools. School Committee Chair David Pollak voiced his support during tonight’s School Committee meeting saying, “When working with parents, it’s clear that Ms. Ngo-Miller’s calmness and constancy of purpose puts them at ease, allowing them to share openly and honestly and begin working toward solutions. I am very pleased the committee has voted to appoint Ms. Ngo-Miller.”

Ms. Ngo-Miller brings a wealth of experience to this position. Prior to coming to Brookline, she was the Director of Special Education for the UP Education Network. She has also served as the Director of Special Education of the Early Learning Center and Elementary School of Community Day Charter Public School, an Administrative Intern with the Director of Special Education at Framingham Public Schools, the School Psychologist and Team Chair for Fort Lee High School in New Jersey, and the Program Coordinator and Residential Teacher at the May Institute for Neuro-Rehabilitation.


Ms. Ngo-Miller has earned a Master of Education in School Leadership from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, a Master of Arts in School Psychology from Tufts University, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Politics from Brandeis University. Ms. Ngo-Miller holds a Professional License for Special Education Administrator and is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist.
