    • Ben Lummis joined the Public Schools of Brookline as the Special Assistant to the Superintendent for Strategy and Performance. Mr. Lummis is an accomplished leader, problem solver, and team builder who has worked in public education for twenty years. Ben worked as Vice President with Mass 2020 and the National Center on Time & Learning, leading the TIME Collaborative, a five-state initiative to develop models of high quality expanded time schools.
    • In this position, Mr. Lummis led the team responsible for direct work with principals, teachers, and district leaders helping them to effectively expand the school day and calendar to increase academic achievement, strengthen instruction, and deepen student engagement. Until recently Ben served as Vice President of Educator and Professional Development Programs at EF Education First, one of the world’s leading international education companies. He has also served as Director at the Center for
    • Collaborative Education and as a School Committee member in Cambridge. He began his career as a middle school English teacher in Cambridge and Needham. Ben earned a Master of Arts degree in Teaching at Tufts University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and Economics from the University of Michigan.

    • William H. Lupini assumed the position of Superintendent of Schools in Brookline in July, 2004. Prior to coming to Brookline, Dr. Lupini served as Superintendent for seven years in Beverly, Massachusetts, and for two years in Kutztown, Pennsylvania.
    • Dr. Lupini has also served as Director of Curriculum and Instruction and Assistant High School Principal in Kutztown, as well as having worked as a Program Specialist with the New Jersey Department of Education. He also taught Marketing Education at Maple Shade High School in New Jersey and Bucks County Technical School in Pennsylvania.
    • Dr. Lupini has served as President of the Minority Student Achievement Network (MSAN) Governing Board and currently serves as President-Elect of the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents (MASS). He has also served on the Special Commission on Education Collaboratives and the Commission on Achievement Gaps. He teaches School Law in a number of programs for aspiring school administrators.

    • Mary Ellen Dunn joined the Public Schools of Brookline in July 2015. Ms. Dunn has served as the Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations for the Lexington Public Schools for the past eight years. Prior to assuming her current role in Lexington, she served as the Director of Fiscal and Management Services in Natick Public Schools for four years. In addition, she has served as the Director of Finance and Operations in Needham Public Schools and as a certified Town Treasurer and Tax
    • Collector in the Town of Sudbury. She started her professional career as a Presidential Management Intern with the US General Accounting Office, now known as the US Government Accountability Office. Ms. Dunn has a breadth and depth of municipal finance knowledge and experience that crosses both school and the municipal boundaries.
    • Ms. Dunn is also an active and engaged member in many professional organizations and has received numerous awards for her outstanding contributions. She is a past president of the Massachusetts Government Finance Officers Association and a past board member of MASBO as well as a recipient of the Donald D. Johnson Operational and Cost Efficiency Award in Lexington Public Schools in 2011. She currently serves as an instructor and mentor for many school business administrators in the areas of
    • municipal finance law, policy analysis, program evaluation, and is an advocate for fostering collaborative partnerships within schools and municipal departments.

    • Barbara Scotto, Vice Chairman, was elected to the School Committee in May 2009. She is a graduate of Wilson College and has an M.Ed. from Johns Hopkins University and an M.S and an M.A. from Simmons College where she was an adjunct member of the faculty for many years.
    • She is Co-Director of Children’s Literature New England and is also actively involved in the work of The Examined Life: Greek Studies in the Schools. Ms. Scotto joined the Brookline School System in 1976, beginning as the librarian for the BEEP project.
    • She spent most of her career at the Driscoll School where she taught from 1981 through 2006. In 2002 she was the winner of the Brookline Foundation’s Ernest Caverly Award for Excellence in Teaching.
    • Her two children graduated from Devotion School and Brookline High. She has been a Town Meeting member, first in Precinct 2 and currently in Precinct 8, since 1973. Ms. Scotto’s present term expires in 2015.
