Dear Runkle School Families and Staff,

It is with great pleasure that I announce Ms. Genteen Jean-Michel as principal of the John D. Runkle School beginning with the 2017-2018 school year. Ms. Jean-Michel brings a wealth of educational leadership experience to Runkle and to the Public Schools of Brookline. She has served as an elementary school principal in Boston for ten years. Prior to her tenure as principal, Ms. Jean-Michel served as an elementary school teacher across several grades.

Ms. Jean-Michel is currently the principal of the John D. Philbrick Elementary School in Roslindale. Prior to serving at the Philbrick, Ms. Jean-Michel served as the principal of the Mattahunt Elementary School and the Lee Academy Pilot School. While in Boston, Ms. Jean-Michel distinguished herself as a collaborative leader, working closely with teachers, parents, and community stakeholders to create and support energetic, dynamic, and engaging learning communities. Ms. Jean-Michel is an instructional and curriculum leader who has deep experience with literacy, early childhood education, and specialized instructional programs for students with disabilities.

A thoughtful and rigorous process was undertaken in order to select the best possible match to lead the Runkle community forward. I want to thank the Runkle School principal search committee for their time and commitment to this process. Ms. Jean-Michel is looking forward to developing strong relationships with families and staff, while maintaining the collaborative culture so important to the school community. Ms. Jean-Michel is committed to honoring the strong traditions at Runkle School, fully supporting the RISE program, and tackling the challenges of equity that are a key priority throughout the Public Schools of Brookline.

Ms. Jean-Michel will formally begin as principal of Runkle School on July 1, 2017. We will schedule times in March for Ms. Jean-Michel to meet with faculty, staff and the Runkle community and to be introduced publicly at a School Committee meeting.

Please join me in welcoming Ms. Jean-Michel to Runkle and to Brookline.
