Well-Attended 9th School Public Meeting on May 18
More than 100 parents, guardians, and residents attended the May 18 public hearing at Pierce School on building a 9th elementary school. The meeting informed people of three sites needing further study over the spring/summer in order to come up with a decision in October on one site to move into a feasibility study phase.
Information presented by school administration, School Committee and Board of Selectmen members made the need for a 9th school clear: Brookline’s student population has grown dramatically over the last eight years. Since 2005 Brookline’s K-8 enrollment has increased by 1,500 students, and recent enrollment projections indicate this enrollment growth will continue for at least the next five years. Please view the presentation here.
The next public meeting to hear this information is at a joint School Committee/Board of Selectmen meeting on June 7 in the Selectmen’s Hearing Room at 8:00 p.m. More information on the 9th school is available on the Capital Projects page on the school website.
