Community Updates: November 2019
How To Talk To Your Kids About Racism
This month, there will be two opportunities for Brookline parents and caregivers to participate in a community dialogue on talking to your children about racism:
- Tuesday, November 12 from 6 - 7:30 PM, in the Driscoll School Theatre. Hosted by the Driscoll School PTO and facilitated by Dr. Kalise Wornum (PSB Senior Director of Educational Equity) and Dr. Suzie Talukdar (Driscoll School Principal).
- Tuesday, November 19, 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. in the Lawrence School Auditorium. hosted by the Lawrence School Diversity, Inclusion, Community and Equity (DICE) group and facilitated by Danika Manso-Brown and Karen Schwartz, experts from the Anti-Defamation League.
Both events will discuss concepts and strategies for families to engage young people of all ages in conversations around race. Brookline staff are also welcome to attend!
Party for the Pantry Annual Fundraiser
Saturday, November 16, 7:00 - 11:00 p.m. at the Coolidge Corner School.
The Brookline Food Pantry and the Brookline Thrives Program will be holding their 3rd annual Party for the Pantry fundraiser at the Coolidge Corner School. Join other volunteers and the Brookline community in a silent auction and dancing as they raise donations to provide free take-home weekend meals for families in need.
First Light Holiday Celebration
Thursday, November 21, 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Hosted by the Brookline Chamber of Commerce, this annual event is a great way to jumpstart the holiday season. Participating businesses will offer a variety of family fun entertainment and giveaways, including live music, samples, collaborative art projects, presentations, caricatures, face painting, balloons, and refreshments. Wander around Brookline’s commercial areas and enjoy the fun!
Seasonal Flu Clinics
Beginning in October, the Department of Public Health will be hosting Flu Clinics for all Brookline residents including children that are six months or older. Families may visit Baker School on November 13 and Brookline High School on November 24 to receive their flu shots. There will be no charge for individuals without health insurance.
