  • School Committee Votes Unanimously for Andrew Bott to be Brookline's Next Superintendent

Posted by Ben Lummis on 3/17/2016

Tonight, with a unanimous vote, the School Committee approved Andrew Bott as the new Superintendent of the Public Schools of Brookline pending successful contract negotiations.

The School Committee had three highly qualified candidates to choose from.  Though they brought varying experiences from various types of districts, they respectively had strengths and qualities that would greatly benefit the Public Schools of Brookline.  The School Committee considers itself fortunate to have the opportunity to make this difficult choice among such candidates.

Andrew Bott is an inspiring leader who will build a great future for the Public Schools of Brookline.  He brings 14 years as a principal in Boston and in Brookline and has proven himself as an intelligent, creative problem solver who has faced daunting challenges and produced remarkable sustained results for schools and students. As evidenced in feedback from the Finalist Review Committee, the general public, and the Lincoln School community, Mr. Bott engages, partners, and communicates effectively with parents, community members, and educators. In addition, as demonstrated in his early work with Lincoln School, he is committed to educational equity and has a track record of recruiting and retaining high quality educators of color.

The School Committee is excited to support and work with Andrew Bott as the new Superintendent of the Public Schools of Brookline.

  • Search Process Overview

The School Committee is in the process of fulfilling its most important responsibility - hiring the superintendent of schools. With the rapid growth of our school system and the ongoing commitment from our community, it is essential to find a new superintendent who can help us build for the future while continuing our long-standing success. The School Committee is determined to name an accomplished and capable individual who will lead the people and programs that provide the energized teaching, engaged learning, and innovative practices for which Brookline is known.
The School Committee has selected the executive search firm Atlantic Research Partners to support a national search for Brookline’s next superintendent. Recruitment of candidates is now underway with the goal of hiring a new superintendent who will start prior to the 2016-2017 school year.

    Process and Timeline

Working with Atlantic Research Partners, the School Committee has developed a comprehensive search and selection process that includes: gathering community input from a wide variety of stakeholders to inform candidate selection, developing a leadership profile, recruiting and screening candidates, holding two rounds of interviews, finalist site visits, and selection. The process began in early December 2015 and will conclude in April 2016

    Community Input

The School Committee invites and welcomes community involvement and engagement during the superintendent search process and is offering a number of ways for school and community stakeholders to provide input, including: community forums; an online survey; focus groups with partner organizations of the public schools, and more. Community Forums and Focus Groups begin the week of December 14th and continue during the week of January 4th.
