• District Calendar

Every year the school calendar is developed by the Superintendent in consultation with the School Committee and the Brookline Educators Union (BEU) and abides by guidelines set in the collective bargaining agreement between the School Committee and the BEU.
    • Following guidance from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education the number of instructional days for students in the the 2020-2021 school year was reduced from 180 days to 170 days. This change allows for additional professional development days for educators to prepare for this unprecendented school year. The school calendar was, therefore, revised. Click below for the revised calendar that was approved by the Brookline School Committee on 8/20/20.

    2020-2021 School Calendar (updated 11.1.20)

Please note the following with regard to the revised calendar:

    • The start date has been moved from September 3 to September 16, 2020.

    • In addition to the ten days at the start of the school year, two additional Professional Development Days have been added: October 19, 2020 and January 8, 2021. On these PD Days, teachers and paraprofessionals report but there is no school for students.

    • The original Professional Development Day (November 3) remains on the calendar. As a reminder, this is scheduled to coincide with Election Day. Almost all of our schools serve as polling locations. Coordinating the PD Day with Election Day is advantageous for students, teachers and town voters.

    • Governor Baker recently announced that June 19 would be an annual state holiday: Juneteenth. In 2021, June 19 falls on a Saturday. In Massachusetts, legal holidays that fall on a Saturday are observed on the Saturday. Therefore, no changes to the June 2021 calendar are necessary.

    • Beginning on October 19, 2020, early release days have been moved from Friday to Wednesday to accommodate PSB's transition to the hybrid learning model.
