We hope that the week back after the April vacation has been healthy and productive for everyone. With full in-person instruction back for all grades, excepting those students enrolled in the Remote Learning Academy, we continue to move forward in a positive way, each day getting a little closer to our pre-pandemic routines. I’m especially excited to see more of our students and staff making use of our outdoor spaces during the school day as the weather allows.

 

As we celebrate the wide availability of COVID-19 vaccines, and favorable metrics about the spread of the virus, we ask that you remain vigilant and follow all public health precautions to keep our schools safe. If you haven’t already, we encourage you to sign up for the pooled COVID-19 testing program, which is available for all students and staff. This program tests for COVID-19 among staff and students who are not showing any symptoms, and is one way we can curb any potential spread of the virus in our community.

 

Summer Programs Update

We continue to finalize plans for several exciting K-8 summer programs this year. In addition to the programs that PSB traditionally operates (such as Project Discovery for grades K-5 to provide targeted reading support and STAR Academy for K-8 METCO and English Learner students to provide additional academic support and enrichment) we are also pleased to be offering a Universal Summer Program this year. 

 

The Universal Summer Program will provide project-based academic enrichment including community building and social emotional learning, and will serve students entering grades 1-8. The program will have two sessions (July 6-16 and July 19-30) and will operate from 8:45am to 11:45am at the Ridley School. Be on the lookout for registration information during the week of May 3. If you received an invitation for your child to participate in Project Discovery or STAR Academy, we encourage your application as soon as possible as we expect those programs to fill to capacity.

 

Teacher Appreciation Week: May 3-7

Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week! As we reflect upon this most unconventional of school years, we are reminded of the important role that educators play in the lives of our students. Brookline is fortunate to have an excellent teaching staff whose professionalism, skills and empathy are unmatched. We rely on our educators to engage and instruct, and to support and guide our students. I know I speak for all of our parents and guardians when I extend our gratitude and thanks to Brookline’s teachers for their dedication and commitment to our students. Enjoy a restful weekend.

 

School Highlights

• BEEP @ Clark: To celebrate Earth Day, Ms. Zimmerman’s classroom took some time to learn about planet Earth, created seed bombs to plant at home, and made several promises (such as composting, conserving energy, and feeding the birds) to take care of our home.
