2023 Youth Risk Behavior Survey
-
In May 2023, the Public Schools of Brookline administered the Massachusetts Youth Risk Behavior Survey (MYRBS) to students in grades 6 through 12. The MYRBS was developed by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Massachusetts Department of Public Health in order to gather information about behaviors associated with the leading causes of illness and
injury among young people. The survey is widely used in communities nationwide to gather information about:- Emotional health and well-being
- Nutrition and physical activity
- Technology use
- Use of nicotine, alcohol, and other drug use
- Behaviors related to sexual activity and healthy decision-making
- Behaviors related to intentional injury
- Behaviors that contribute to unintentional injuries
- The information gathered by the survey will be used to review PSB's Wellness Education Program and make improvements designed to prevent and reduce risk behaviors among youth. These data are critical in order to create a wellness program that is effective, comprehensive, and specifically addresses the needs of Brookline students.
