Courageous Listening: Using Listening to Interrupt Implicit Bias -- 2017 Professional Development Day -- November 10
Like last year, the Public Schools of Brookline will host a professional development day for of our teachers, administrators, and paraprofessionals focusing on the district’s core values of Respecting Human Differences and Educational Equity. This year, Jamie Almanzán from The Equity Collaborative will lead our staff in a day of “Courageous Listening.” Building on the great work happening in all of our schools addressing questions of equity and unintentional bias and building on last year’s powerful day of learning led by Dr. Beverly Daniel Tatum, Mr. Almanzán will kick the day off with an engaging and participatory keynote. Like last year, the keynote session will include Q&A with Mr. Almanzán and be followed by small-group breakout sessions facilitated by PSB staff. Mr. Almanzán will also support principals and district administrators in an ongoing way this year as they work to address issues of equity in our school system.
As noted in the official 2017-18 school calendar when it was released last year, there will not be school on November 10 so our educators can participate in this professional learning experience that is based in our District's Core Values of Respect for Human Differences and Educational Equity. The District thanks the Brookline Education Foundation for its generous support and partnership that makes this professional learning day possible.
